Despite the harsh conditions of the desert and hardscrabble ground, the succulent perseveres, finding water and nourishment.

Everybody’s Coffee located at 939 W. Wilson, Chicago is proud to present its latest art exhibit, “Hope Anyways,” paintings by Suzanne Stewart.

Using acrylic and latex on foam board and wood panel, Suzanne works from a broad palette with colors ranging from pastels to surreal blues and pinks on an enlarged scale. One 4 x 4 board incorporates a variety of greens offset by a pomegranate red, leading the eye right into the center. “I probably mixed and blended twenty different shades of green.”

When she first started painting succulents Suzanne was surprised and amazed by the drama and beauty produced by such a hardy plant. “It’s a survivor. They don’t give up easily. I’ve found so much inspiration working on this project.”

Come be refreshed and find sustenance.

Suzanne lives in Uptown with her husband and two teens.
