Saturday, February 27th we were honored to host the Great Lakes Coffee Showcase where we held the Midwest regional Aeropress championship! The winner received free airfare to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the U.S. championship. It was an event not to be missed.
We had a great turn out with 18 contestants. Thank you to our esteemed judges who had the difficult task of choosing the best cup of coffee. A big congratulations to the winners!
- Gold – Matthew Gasaway, Intelligentsia, Chicago, IL
- Silver – Eli Ramirez, Shift Coffee, Denton, TX
- Bronze – Kayla Placencio, Beans and Bagels, Chicago, IL
We also had a great time showcasing local shops and roasters like Abacus, Bow Truss, Metropolis, Big Shoulders, Ipsento, Intelligensia, Metric, Ruby, Kickapoo, Pilcrow, and Groundswell who provided pour overs, cold brew and giveaways for our thirsty crowd.
After the Aeropress competition New Gotham hosted an awesome latte art throw down so all the local baristas in attendance could showcase their amazing talents for the crowd.
A big thanks to everyone who helped make this event a spectacular day for coffee. And a special thanks to Andrew Bettis for dreaming up the vision for this celebration of our coffee community!
